Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra
The Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1969 and from 1970 to 1992 was successfully headed by its first Artistic Director conductor, educator and composer Ivan Spasov, one of Bulgaria’s most significant cultural figures.
The orchestra performs the traditional classical repertoire and as well as works by contemporary composers, especially Bulgarian composers, of which many world premiers were written especially for them.
The orchestra also frequently tours, most recently performing in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Norway, Spain and Switzerland and has performed on Bulgarian National Radio, Bulgarian National Television.
The Pazardjik State Symphony Orchestra’s former Artistic Directors have included noted Maestros Georgi Atanasov, Deyan Pavlov, Plamen Parvanov and Peter Stefanov.
Since 2005 the Artistic Director and conductor has been Maestro Grigor Palikarov. Under his leadership the orchestra has participate some of Bulgaria’s most prestigious music festivals and events including “Sofia Music Weeks”, “March Music Days” and the “New Bulgarian Music Preview”.
Currently, Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra’s acclaimed members attract many internationally renowned conductors and soloists from Bulgaria and abroad. Since 2000 the Orchestra has been a member of Bulgaria’s Symphonic Operatic Society.
